Woke up this morning reflecting on a conversation I had with some younger guys from my hood about the streets, life on those streets, and how to cope with the general cut and thrust of life…it was very interesting to interact…….
I remember being intoxicated with the idea of being the next “Escobar” and having money and girls and trips and drip…….but I also remember those 15 years in jail they gave me for the crime I committed in the process of trying to get there.
All I can say is that after all the struggle and reading and learning and sacrifice life is ten times better on this side of the fence.
I wake up mornings and don’t have to worry about if the police are coming to kick the door in again. I travel anywhere on the island and do not have to be afraid of who is out to get me. I’m not rich by any means, but I am comfortable enough to provide for my family without extreme stress. The grass is not only greener on the other side, its also a lot softer to sit on.
I just want to encourage all my younger brothers too strive to get out of that life, and use your obvious intelligence and bravery to carve out something legit for yourselves. It can be done. I’ve seen it done by many guys. I did it. You can do it too
