Police confirmed today that the two men who were gunned down at Gombey’s in St David’s last night are “both in stable condition” at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

The double shooting incident occurred at 11:40pm on Sunday night.

Police Media Manager Dwayne Caines in his initial statement late last night said, “Police and first responders attended a report of an incident that took place at Gombey’s in St David’s.

“Upon police arrival it was ascertained that a male walked into Gombey’s brandished a firearm and shot a male and immediately made good his escape on a motorcycle.”

The victim was rushed to the Emergency Ward via ambulance. Another man who was “shot (in the same incident) in the lower abdomen” was rushed to the hospital in a private vehicle.

Several shots were fired by the lone gunman. “Both victims were hit in the body and were taken to hospital with wounds to their abdomen.”

“Police say there were a number of staff in the premises at the time of the incident. The area outside the bar was cordoned off after the shooting while officers began their investigation. A number of police vehicles remained at the scene at about 1am.

“The suspect is said to be between 5ft 7in and 5ft 9in and left the scene on a motorcycle,” Mr Caines added.

“Police are interested in speaking with anyone who may have any information that may assist police in this investigation to please make contact Sgt. Dean Martin on 295-0011 or the confidential crime stoppers hotline on 800 8477.”

Meanwhile, police marine officers impounded a boat during the early hours of Sunday morning “after acting on information received from HM Customs… after noticing specific irregularities”.

“As this is an active investigation no further information will be given at this time whilst preliminary inquiries are being made,” Mr Caines said.

Also on the weekend crime sheet, two men are currently in police custody following “reports of two sexual assaults that took place in the early hours of Sunday morning”.

Mr Caines said, “One took place in the City of Hamilton and the other occurred at a hotel property in the east end of the island.

“Members of the Serious Crime and Vulnerable Persons Unit are actively investigating these matters. Two persons are in police custody in and investigations are ongoing.”
