SEE FOLLOW UP To This Report:

In follow up to this report, the Ministry of Health issued this reponse:

Both Mr Simmons and Ms Richardson have minor issues to resolve and are close to opening their businesses. The only outstanding matter with Mr Simmons is that he has a bar-b-que on a plastic table. He has been advised to procure a suitable table to hold his bar-b-que.

Ms Richardson must determine what she wants to sell so the officer can offer appropriate guidance.  She is scheduled to meet with the Environmental Health officer tomorrow morning to clear up any outstanding issues.

Both vendors can sell pre-packed foods until they determine how to correct the minor outstanding issues.

Environmental Health officers continue working with both vendors to resolve any outstanding issues.

These officers provide critical assistance and work diligently to ensure food and beverages consumed in Bermuda are safe.

The officers license all types of food and beverage establishments, and you can find the most recent inspection results on Grades on Licences. They also sample milk, frozen desserts, foods, and beverages and inspect locally slaughtered meat. The importance of meeting the necessary standards for the preparation and sale of food cannot be over-emphasised.

Environmental Health Officers license various types of food and beverage establishments. Organisations will have different requirements, incorporating best international practice standards in their fields. Each organisation will require approval from Environmental Health, and may require annual inspections.
