Bermudian tennis player Shelby Madeiros has been signed at the University of South Carolina (USC) to join their team next fall.

The school’s announcement said, “USC Upstate head women’s tennis coach Tim McLane has announced the signing of Shelby Madeiros out of Bermuda.

“We are really excited to have Shelby [Madeiros] joining USC Upstate next fall,” McLane said. “She’s a great student and has a great personality that will fit in well with our team. Shelby is a good athlete with a ton of upside and the potential to really grow her game during her collegiate career, and we’re pretty pumped to see how she will improve and contribute during her time in Spartanburg.”

Currently attending IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, Ms Madeiros has been ranked 2,452 in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior World rankings.

In August 2019 she sealed her best finish at an ITF junior tournament and reached the second round of the main draw in the Grade 5 Castries, Saint Lucia event.

She also has a Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) of 7.33. She reached a 7.61 rating last fall.

Ms Madeiros will join the USC Upstate tennis team in the fall of 2020.
