Two men have been arrested in connection with the recovery of a firearm, following an incident near the Grace Methodist Church on Monday night.

Police were tight-lipped on what actually transpired, although reports circulating via social media indicates that a woman travelling with a male acquaintance realized that he was armed with a gun. She reportedly grabbed the gun which ended up overboard, and was later recovered by marine police.

“As a result, two men, one from Devonshire and one from Pembroke, are in custody assisting police.” The spokesman said: “The investigation is still in its infancy and at this stage it would be inappropriate to mention specifics with regards to this incident.”

Police are now appealing “to members of the public who live in the area – as well those who were travelling through or visiting the vicinity of Grace Methodist Church on North Shore Road” between 11:30pm on Monday, May 1st and 12:15am on Tuesday, May 2nd, to contact the Serious Crime Department on 247-1739, or the confidential Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-8477.
