Ice Cube is clarifying a shoutout by the Trump campaign thanking him for working with the current administration in creating a plan for the Black community in the U.S.
On Tuesday, Trump senior advisor Katrina Pierson gave the former N.W.A. star a congratulatory nod on Twitter, for his work helping Trump develop his Black Economic Empowerment “Platinum Plan,” a four-part initiative designed to win over Black American voters.
“Shoutout to @icecube for his willingness to step up and work with @realDonaldTrump Administration to help develop the #PlatinumPlan,” Pierson wrote, adding a link to the proposal.
“Leaders gonna lead, haters gonna hate. Thank you for leading,” she added.
The idea didn’t sit well with some fans, who accused the legendary hip-hop star of “working with the Darkside.”
“I haven’t felt this low since Kobe passed. HEARTBREAKING,” wrote Twitter user Danny Morrison Media.
“Cube, I’m not sure you understand how much we value your voice. And when we see you “jumping the shark,” it KILLS us. Especially in 2020.,” he added in a tweet that received more than 2,800 likes in its first hour.
“Every side is the Darkside for us here in America,” Ice Cube responded.
“They’re all the same until something changes for us. They all lie and they all cheat but we can’t afford not to negotiate with whoever is in power or our condition in this country will never change. Our justice is bipartisan.”
According to Rolling Stone, the rapper offered to meet with both campaigns in recent weeks to discuss an “agenda for black Americans” and to ask support for his Contract with Black America plan (CWBA), which “strikes at the heart of racism and presents a blueprint to achieve racial economic justice.”
“Facts: I put out the CWBA,” Ice Cube tweeted Wednesday, clarifying his position as a collaborator in the Trump campaign.
“Both parties contacted me. Dems said we’ll address the CWBA after the election,” Ice Cube added. “Trump campaign made some adjustments to their plan after talking to us about the CWBA.”
On Aug. 22. Ice Cube posted a video on Twitter asking both parties, “What’s in it for the black community besides the same old thing we’ve been getting from these parties?”
“I didn’t hear anybody mention a Contract With Black America, and I don’t know why because it’s one of the most comprehensive reform documents that have come out in a long time that can really address the problem.”
