New York Daily News: MANHATTAN – Tropical Storm Henri touched down on Rhode Island early Sunday, bringing with it heavy winds and hard rain. The northeast United States braced for the storm to make landfall throughout the morning.

New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts are seeing rainfall tied to the formidable storm, which began as a hurricane, but has lost some speed.

The center of the storm landed 40 miles south of Providence, RI, in the town of Westerly around 12:15pm with sustained winds of 60 mph, the Weather Channel reported.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration records indicate it’s been 30 years since a tropical storm last hit the area.
