New York Daily News: By Rocco Parascandola & Police Bureau Chief – Three young children died after they were found alone on Brooklyn’s Coney Island Beach in the middle of the night early Monday — and their mother is suspected of drowning them, police sources said.
A 3-month-old boy, a 4-year-old girl and a year-old boy were discovered unconscious on the beach near the shoreline at W 35th St. after police responded to a 3:13am 911 call from a relative worried about them and their mother.
Before the children were found, their 30-year-old mother was found by cops two miles away on the boardwalk near Brighton 6th St in Brighton Beach, cops said. She was shoeless and drunk and appeared to be emotionally disturbed, police said.
Her kids, last seen around midnight, were unaccounted for, sparking a frantic search by cops.
Medics rushed the children to Coney Island Hospital, where doctors worked in vain to save them for a couple hours. All three were declared dead at 5:38am, according to a high-ranking police source.
She was taken to the 60th Precinct stationhouse for questioning as cops continue to investigate.
