Four years later, and the party keeps growing for members of the Anchor Boys Club at Mangrove Bay in Sandys, where hundreds of students will gather at 3pm today for the fourth annual ‘Back-to-School’ party and movie on the beach.

At one point, organisers were worried that their shipment of school bags and supplies would not arrive in time for today’s event. But at last check, the order was landed and cleared through HMS Customs before 5pm.

Preparations for the big event are now underway next to the Somerset Post Office at Mangrove Bay.

School bags and supplies will be handed out before a family friendly movie on the big screen later this evening.

Longstanding member Wornell Steede said the event has grown in popularity over the years.

“We do a Christmas party for the neighbourhood, and for around the last six years we have done a May 24 float, which won an award this year for the best individual float.”

He also noted that the event is “self-sponsored” with help from members of the community who contribute with donations and other supplies, including the Open Your Heart Foundation.

The event starts at 3pm through to 10pm.
