After years in the making, the official ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the new St Regis Bermuda resort in St George’s on Saturday.
Speaking at the event, Premier David Burt said the official opening represented “another major step forward in the start of the tourism renaissance”.
Miguel Purroy, a representative of the hotel’s owners noted that the hotel opened on time and on budget.
“Here, at the St Regis Bermuda resort, we have everything we need – refined luxury, architecture inspired in Bermudian traditions and lifestyle, unique scenery, surrounded by historic monuments and by the jewel of the Town of St George.
“The Five Forts golf course, which also opens today (May 22), is meant precisely to enhance in our guests the experience of being surrounded by history,” he added.
Also on hand for the event was the hotel’s General Manager Jan Vanhaelewyn.
Other guests included St George’s MP Renée Ming, Opposition Leader Cole Simons, Former Premier Michael Dunkley, the Mayor of St George’s George Dowling lll and Sir John Swan.
The new hotel has two restaurants – Lina and BLT Steak NY, the St Regis S pa, a pool deck and beach and the Five Forts golf course.
