In a bid to help preserve their world heritage, St George’s community groups have come in for a $100,000 boost from Unesco.

The funds, to be distributed by the Corporation of St George, will go be used to augment the Old Towne’s image.

In the case of the Friend’s of St Peter’s, their $40,000 allocation will be used for clock restoration and maintenance.

The Salvation Army received $30,000 for the exterior painting of its building and the St George’s Foundation was given $20,000 to help with cleaning costs for forts in St George’s.

The St George’s Crown, a town newspaper, came in for $10,000 for promoting the history, heritage and culture of St George’s.

Commenting on the presentation, St George’s Mayor George Dowling III said: “The corporation is sincerely passionate about seeing the town grow and prosper.

“We understand that it is important that we sufficiently invest in our people and their programmes to make lives better for those that live and work in our historical town.print sharing button
