Sadly, Bermuda recorded another road traffic fatality late last night that claimed the life of a 40-year-old man involved in a three-vehicle collision on Middle Road in Devonshire.
Police say the accident occurred just after 11pm near the junction with Lines Estate Road, when two motorcycles heading east along Middle Road collided with a taxi heading in the opposite direction.
One of the motorcyclists sustained severe head injuries.
Both riders were hurled from their bikes – all three vehicles were extensively damaged.
A police spokesman said: “One of the injured motorcyclists is said to have left the scene on foot.
“The other, a 40-year-old, sustained what were described as serious head injuries and was found unresponsive when officers arrived at the scene.”
He was rushed to the hospital’s Emergency Department, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Police are now appealing for any witnesses to this accident to come forward.
“There were reportedly a number of other bikes present when the collision occurred but they left before the arrival of the police,” the spokesman added.
Thescene of the fatal crash was closed for an extended period while the scene was processed by BPS traffic collision investigators with officers from the force’s forensics unit.
Anyone who may have been present when the collision occurred, or who may have any information about this accident, is urged to call 211 or, the main police number on 295-0011.
A family liaison officer has been appointed to assist the victim’s relatives.
