SCARS (Saving Children And Revealing Secrets), is set to launch another unprecedented beacon of hope for survivors of child sexual abuse when the premier show ’Survivor Hour’ airs on Channel 82 at 8pm.

The one–hour program features adult survivors, who relay the personal impact sexual abuse as a child and the toll it has taken on their lives.

When contacted by Bermuda Real, Executive Director of SCARS, Debi Ray–Rivers said: “We are grateful to Lamone Woods and Channel 82 in providing us this wonderful opportunity for awareness and for hope.

“Our scars from sexual assault can also be a symbol of strength, resilience, hope and courage.

“Our viewers will hear and see this from our brave survivors who are revealing their childhood secret, sharing their pain, and providing hope to others.

“Their stories are different but they both have one thing in common, adults didn’t protect them.  Adults didn’t recognize the signs and adults betrayed them,“ she added.

“We must always expose the injustice of children.  We must be their voice and stand up against anyone who wishes to harm them by using them for sexual gratification.  It is our responsibility as adults to do everything we can to make sure they are safe.“

Granted it’s charitable status by the Registrar General of Bermuda on October 27, in 2011, SCARS is Bermuda’s only child sexual abuse prevention charity.

Their Mission is: “To reduce the risk of child sexual abuse and to be an advocate and voice for children who have been sexually molested as well as their affected family.“

Since 2011, SCARS has worked to create greater awareness of “the devastation that child sexual abuse can cause in the life of an innocent child, their affected family and a community“.
