The Sandys Parish Council’s Community Outreach Committee have planned a road race to honour Bermuda Day Marathon champion Jay Donawa for his achievements and winning the May 24th Bermuda Road Race this year.
Entry fees will go to the recipients of the Council’s 2018 Educational Bursaries.
A spokeswoman for the Sandys Parish Council said: “We look forward to having a great community turnout on Sunday, December 17th and this will be a fun event.”
The race gets underway at 8:30am for walkers and runners.
In the Jay Donawa 5K Road Race poster competition, Dalton E Tucker Primary School student Enzi Johnson’s poster was the winning entry. Participants included students from Somet and West End Primary Schools, Dalton E Tucker Primary and Sandys Middle School.
All entries were received and judged and Enzi’s poster “won the final pick”.
Mr Donawa, who said after winning his first ever Bermuda Day Marathon said the 2016 race would be his last.
He finished the race in a time of 1 hour, 23 minutes and 50 seconds from St George’s. The race starts from the west end next year.
