Organisers of the 2021 Relay For Life held last month, raised $191,500 for the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre this year. But the appeal continues to reach their $500,000 goal.
This year’s event was held on Friday May 14 to Saturday, May 15 from 7pm through to 12pm and promoted under the slogan ‘COVID-19 doesn’t stop cancer!
Due to the global pandemic, the event included virtual ceremonies carried live via Facebook with speakers, survivors and entertainment.
The funds raised subsidises “over $2.2 million in services for people whose insurance does not cover 100 percent of their medical costs for cancer treatment or for patients who are without health insurance.
The Centre published the following statement in their June Newsletter:
We are very thankful to the Relay community: 1) the event sponsors who cover all the costs so that every dollar donated goes toward providing access to those who may not afford services; 2) the teams who registered and held, or are still planning to hold fundraisers; 3) the volunteers who made the luminaria event so special, and 4) everyone who donated and watched the ceremonies online – THANK YOU!
Funds raised thus far = $191,500. However, we still need your help to get us closer to our $500,000 goal.
Relay For Life is our largest fundraiser which helps to subsidise over $2.2 million in services, either where health insurance does not cover 100 percent or for patients without insurance – ensuring our services are accessible to everyone.
To our cancer Survivors, we are honoured that we could celebrate you – even if at a distance!
