This coming Saturday, December 7 is E-Waste Day when tipping fees will be waived all day from 7:30am to 3pm, to encourage recycling of electrical items that should be put in household trash.
Residents are urged to bring in all their old laptops, computers, cell phones, cable boxes and other electronics to the Tynes Bay Waste Treatment Facility for recycling.
Public Works Minister Lieutenant Colonel David Burch, said: “E-waste that is tossed into landfills or otherwise incorrectly disposed of, leaches toxic substances, including lead, mercury, cadmium, beryllium, polyvinyl chloride and chromium into the earth, polluting the soil, groundwater and the air.
“Responsibly disposing of e-waste helps protect our environment and keeps Bermuda beautiful for all,” he added.
Organised by the Department of Operations and Engineering, that’s this Saturday, December 7, from 7.30am through to 3pm at Tynes Bay.
