Dr Ball, the first Bermudian woman to practice medicine in Bermuda, ardently advocated for people’s rights. She was born in Bermuda in 1924 and earned her medical degree from Liverpool University Medical School in 1949.

After a brief stint in the UK, she returned to Bermuda in 1954 to dedicate herself to the welfare of the underprivileged.

Minister Wilson added: “The Government of Bermuda is proud to offer scholarships to exceptional students pursuing careers in healthcare.

“Whether providing care to patients in a hospital setting or working in public health to improve the health outcomes of entire populations, healthcare professionals can make a real difference in people’s lives.
