Premier David Burt left the island today, bound for Washington DC, where he has a number of meetings scheduled for tomorrow with members of the Congressional Black Caucus.
Mr Burt is scheduled to meet with Senator Bill Cassidy (Republican-Louisiana) and Congressman Joseph Crowley (Democrat-Bronx, NY), Chairman, House Democratic Caucus.
He will also travel to the US Department of State for talks with the Acting Deputy Assistant of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, Whitney Baird and Anamika Chakravorty, Sr, UK Desk Officer at the Department of State. They will be joined by the newly appointed US Consul General to Bermuda, Mrs Constance Dierman who takes up the post in June.
While in the US capital, Premier Burt will also meet with John Huff, President and Chief Executive of ABIR; Lance Mangum, Staff Director, Government Affairs, FedEx; Michael Cohen, Vice President, Government Relations, Renaissance Re; and Tracey Laws, Senior Vice President & General Counsel, Global Government & Industry Affairs, Chubb Ltd.
The Premier will attend the Martin Luther King Commemoration Ceremony at Statutory Hall with members of Congress.
Premier Burt stated: “This is an opportunity to renew relationships and to signal the continuing importance of positive, working relationships between Bermuda and the US Government.”
