A 48-year-old Warwick man sustained minor burns to his hands this morning in an industrial accident in the City of Hamilton that occurred around 8:45am this morning (Sunday, May 19).

A police spokesman said: “It appears that a male worker was refuelling a crane in the Church Street, Washington Lane area when some of the fuel spilled and somehow ignited.

Apparently the fire was extinguished just prior to the arrival of the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service.

The worker involved, said to be a 48-year-old Warwick man, is understood to have sustained minor burns to his hands – but declined medical treatment at the scene.”

As a safety precaution, temporary traffic diversions were put in effect for just over an hour and the Government Health and Safety Officer was notified.
