Police say initial information suggests that a 22-year-old female was travelling west, when she lost control of the vehicle on the bend near the old bridge.

A spokeswoman said: “On arrival, first responders found the woman to be unconscious.

“She was conveyed to King Edward Memorial Hospital for treatment of her injuries, the extent of which are unknown at this time.

“However, at last check, she was conscious and alert.

“Traffic was diverted on to Southside Road, while police processed the scene.
