After a seven-hour stand-off and hurling an unknown corrosive substance at police, the 69-year-old man who barricaded himself inside the former prison headquarters building on Happy Valley Road in Pembroke was arrested.
A police spokesman said he was “detained without incident” shortly after 6pm yesterday.
“Police officers entered and conducted a search of the building, following extensive negotiation efforts, with no report of any injuries to the man or the officers involved.
“The man is expected to be charged with trespassing, assault on police and wilful damage. He is currently in police custody,” he added.
Police were called in wearing protective gear with emergency vehicles on standby around 10:30am on Thursday.
