Four days after the murder of 21-year-old Jahkoby Smith, police have confirmed that the lead suspect arrested has been released on bail with “strict reporting conditions”.

Meanwhile, the police investigation into the murder and wounding of another man continues as a “matter of priority”.

Mr Smith was stabbed to death during an altercation at the West End Sailboat Club on Saturday evening.

At a news conference earlier this week, Acting Superintendent Nicholas Pedro said that the stabbing was the result of “antisocial behavior” that was “fuelled by alcohol and or other items, possibly including drugs”, during the wake celebrating the life of another gun murder victim.

Senior officers attached to the Serious Crime Unit also renewed the call for witnesses to come forward.

In a statement released today, police said: “We are aware that some persons will possess information, or may have seen the murder of Jahkoby Smith, and the stabbing or the other young man with with.

“The police rely on the community to help them solve crime, and this matter is no different. We need persons who can help to come forward and talk to the detectives investigating this senseless killing.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 247-1739 or 295-0011, or the confidential Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-6477.
