Police and first responders attended to a report of a two-vehicle accident involving a car and a truck last night, where a 72-year-old woman was trapped in her car.

The accident occurred around 8:50pm, near the junction with Evans Bay Road in Southampton.

A police spokesman said: “It appears that a car and a truck were being driven in opposite directions along Middle Road when the collision occurred.

The car driver, understood to be a 72-year-old Warwick woman, was temporarily trapped in her vehicle, before being extracted by firefighters.

“She was then transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment of her injuries and later discharged.

“The truck driver, said to be a 48-year-old Sandys parish man, was not hurt.

“However, both vehicles involved were damaged.

“There was traffic disruption in the area for approximately two hours while the scene was processed,” he added.

“Any witnesses that have not already come forward are encouraged to call 211.”
