Police responded to an emergency situation yesterday (July 31), when a 58-year-old man climbed to the top of the stairs at Gibbs Hill Lighthouse and threatened to jump.
A spokesman said the incident occurred around 3pm.
“The lighthouse keeper and a member of the public intervened until police officers arrived on the scene a short time later – with police negotiators eventually getting the man to come down from the lighthouse without incident.
“He was then taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for medical assessment,” he added.
“The Bermuda Police Service would like to commend the lighthouse keeper and member of the public that intervened for their prompt and brave action.”
