Police and first responders rushed to the scene of a stabbing incident that occurred shortly after 8pm tonight on Princess Street in Hamilton.

A spokesman said a man was found lying in the street with stab wounds, who required CPR by the attending officers until the ambulance arrived on the scene.

He was rushed to the hospital’s Emergency Department and taken straight into surgery.

No official word yet on his condition.

In a live interview with TNN at the scene, National Security Minister Wayne Caines said he did not want to speculate on what transpired but that he had spoken with area residents shortly after the incident occurred.

“It’s just a sad situation,” he said.

“As a community we are dealing with significant events around COVID-19 and to have violence in our community it really affects us all in a negative way.

“As you know any significant issue of violence has a significant psychological effect on our community.

“As Bermudians we have to understand that our actions, whether they are planned or not, when something like this happens in our community it has a significant effect.

“If you look on this street you will see people that are unable to go into their homes, who are sitting outside as a consequence of some activity that has taken place in their neighbourhoold.

“So all of the effects of what has happened with the shelter in place, it actually takes a significant effect on our community and we have to ask for calm in the community.

“We have to ask people to try to work out difficulties and work through difficult sets of circumstances.

“I cannot speak to anything that has transpired with any level of detail, simply to say my prayers are with the young man that is in the hospital and his family at this time.”
