A 30-year-old man who was punched in the face, when he fell to the ground and struck his head, is today listed in critical condition in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit, and the 25-year-old suspect remains in police custody.

Police officers on mobile patrol came upon the incident that took place on Front Street outside the Cosmopolitan Night Club around 3:15am this morning.

The incident, witnessed and no doubt recorded on cell phones by the large crowd that gathered to watch the two men fight.

A spokesman said: “Details are unclear but it appears that the 30-year-old victim as a result of the altercation was punched in the face and fell to the ground where it is believed that he hit his head on the sidewalk.

“The 25-year-old male suspect was promptly arrested by police and is presently in police custody, while the 30-year-old victim is presently in ICU in critical condition.

“At the scene there was a large crowd of people watching the incident and police would like to talk with you. Anyone with any information is asked to contact CID on 247-1744 or the confidential Crime Stoppers hotline number on 800-8477.

Meanwhile, the appeal for witnesses to the double road traffic fatality continues.

Police are looking to speak with anyone who may be able to assist with the investigation into the circumstances of the fatal collision that claimed the lives of 29-year-old Demarcvjai (Marvin) Williams and 34-year-old Marco Salema.

“Officers are interested in speaking with anyone who may have witnessed the incident or anyone who can help us track the last two hours of either of the victims’ movements before the fateful incident,” the spokesman said.

“Anyone with any information is urged to contact Constable Derek Simmons on the main police telephone number 295-0011 at the earliest opportunity.”
