A 59-year-old man is in police custody tonight following what police now confirm as a robbery that occurred at Belvin’s Variety in Flatts earlier today.
Police confirmed that it has since been confirmed that an undisclosed quantity of cash was taken from the store during the armed robbery this morning (May 21).
A spokesman said the “lone male suspect entered the store brandishing a bladed article” demanding cash. But he left empty-handed and no one was injured and “no injuries were sustained by staff”.
The incident occurred around 11:30am this morning.
The suspect was described as a slim black man who stands about 5ft 6in tall, wearing sunglasses and dark pants.
Police conducted a search of the surrounding area for the culprit shortly after the incident.
The suspect arrested remains in custody pending further inquiries.
