Police arrested a 38-year-old Pembroke man on suspicion of “piloting or being at the helm of a boat while impaired”, following a distress call reporting a boat that had run aground around 4am Friday morning.

A police spokesman said: “The powerboat involved was located on the rocks near Cobbler’s Cut, in waters off Spanish Point Pembroke, with two men aboard.

The men – said to be a 38-year-old Pembroke man and a 43-year-old man – were not hurt.

Both were taken on to the attending police vessel and transported to safety.

The 38-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of piloting or being at the helm of a boat while impaired.

He was subsequently released on police bail pending further inquiries and a court appearance is anticipated in due course.”
