Police are today appealing for witnesses to an incident outside the Washing Mall on New Year’s Day, that left a 70-year-old man in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit.

Police say he was found unconscious following “an altercation with another male who allegedly struck him in the face”.

A spokesman said the incident occurred around 11:30am on Wednesday.

At last check he was listed in critical condition.

“Further enquiries revealed the elderly victim was earlier involved in a verbal altercation with another male who allegedly struck him in the face causing him to fall to the ground,” the spokesman added.

“Police are now seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect. He is described as a black male, between 6ft and 6ft 3in tall and of slim build.

“He was dressed in a white long sleeved jacket over a black hoodie, black pants, white socks and black sneakers and carrying a black backpack.

“Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the main police number, 295-0011.”
