Police are today appealing for witnesses to another serious road traffic accident – this time a four-vehicle collision involving a car and three motorcycles.
Initial reports indicate one of the motorcyclists attempted to overtake the car headed east, when he collided with two bikes travelling in the opposite direction.
Area residents flooded 911 around 11:45pm on Sunday (Jan 29), reporting the serious multiple vehicle collision on South Road, just east of the Henry VII restaurant in Southampton.
A spokesman said: “The male motorcyclist who attempted to overtake the motorcar is described as a heavyset, dark-skinned male, sustained serious injuries in the collision.
“He was unresponsive and was transported by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment.
“One of the other motorcycle riders, also a male, suffered minor injuries.
“It remains unknown whether the third motorcyclist also believed to be a male was injured, as they were driven away from the scene by someone on another bike not thought to have been involved in the collision.
“The female motorcar driver did not sustain any injuries,” he added.
“Traffic was diverted at the junction of Lighthouse Road and at Southampton Princess while Collision Investigators processed the scene.
“Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the main police number, 295-0011 or, the non-emergency reporting number, 211.
“If you’d prefer to share the information with an officer you know, we urge you to please do so.”
