Police Investigating Two Industrial Accidents - Both Men Required Hospital Treatment

Police are investigating two industrial accidents that occurred today, one involving a 60-year-old BTC worker who “slipped off his ladder and fell approximately 25 feet”.

The other accident occurred at a business in Southampton earlier today, where a male employee sustained a head laceration, after he fell off a six foot ladder on the job.

Police and first responders were dispatched shortly after 10am this morning (April 13^th), to a report of an industrial accident in a “utility service area at the northern end of Berkeley Institute, which services CITV”.

A police spokesman said: “Nine members from Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service, workers from Digicel/BTC, BELCO, school staff and Emergency Medical Service (EMS) personnel worked to have the 60-year-old man extricated”.

“He was later taken out of the hole, alert and conscious at 11:15am and transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for medical assessment.

“The Bermuda Police Service would like to thank all of the agencies and volunteers who played a part in his rescue,” he added.

The Government Health and Safety Officer has been notified and an investigation into the incident is underway.

Meanwhile, another workman required hospital treatment earlier today, after he suffered a blow to the head when he fell off a six foot ladder.

The incident occurred at a business on Industrial Road in Southampton.

Fire service personnel attended the scene at Viking Foods shortly before 9am, where the injured man was said to be “not responding normally”.

A police spokesman said he sustained a laceration to the head. The Department of Health and Safety was also notified.
