Police have launched an investigation into a near drowning that took place around 9:21pm on Wednesday evening.

A police spokesman said: “Details are still emerging but witness reports suggest that a man was positioned next to the harbour, specifically in the area of Front Street and Burnaby Street when it appears that he hit his head and fell into the Hamilton Harbour.

“The man was subsequently assisted out of the water and taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he is critical condition at the Intensive Care Unit.”

Police are now appealing for witnesses, or anyone who may have seen the man fall into the harbour to call the main police number on 295-0011.
