Four men, all aged between their late teens and early 20s are in police custody, following an early morning shooting that left a 19-year-old teenager dead and another man injured.

Speaking at a news conference held today, police identified the victim as Letrae Doeman, who was found in the car park at Brightside Guest Apartments in Flatts with multiple gunshot wounds.

A 20-year-old man, who was also shot, remains in hospital in stable condition.

Acting Detective Inspector Jason Smith is now appealing for public assistance to help “trace the movements of the two victims in this case, who at the time were both on the same motorcycle”.

“We are also looking for assistance in identifying two men who were on a motorcycle,” he said.

“Our inquiries have led us to believe that these two suspects on a motorbike entered the area from Harrington Sound Road on to Flatts Hill, where they confronted the victims who were on their motorcycle, in particular at the triangle roundabout at the junction of North Shore Road and Flatts Hill.

“We know from our inquiries that there were a lot of vehicles that were travelling in and around that particular area at the time of the shooting.

“For instance, we know that there is a vehicle that turned from Flatts Hill on to Harrington Sound Road at about the same time that the suspect bike was at that junction.

“We also know that immediately after the shooting, just outside of the parking lot at Brightside, there was a motor car that had stopped and the gunmen who were on the motorbike would have been almost in direct contact with that particular motor car.

“That is critical to our lines of inquiry.”

Mr Smith noted that he “had the unfortunate circumstance today of meeting with the family of Mr Doeman”.

“As one can appreciate, it is a very difficult and challenging time for the family and any assistance that you can give to help us to bring closure would be greatly appreciated,” he said.

Several area residents called 911 reporting gunshots around 1:10am on Friday.

Mr Smith also stated that the two men were at an event before the fatal shooting occurred.

“Our lines of inquiry lead us to believe that they were at the Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club just prior to them coming along North Shore Road and in the area of Flatts,” he said.

At this point he said there was no suggestion that an altercation took place at the club.

“But any parties who were present at the club who witnessed that, please make contact with us,” he added.

Anyone with information can call the main police number 295-0011, the non-emergency number 211 or Mr Smith on 717-0864.

“We are also interested in speaking to motorists who were traveling along North Shore Road at the time of this incident, who might have seen the victims who were on the motorbike or a motorbike heading west along North Shore Road. And when they approached that junction of Flatts Hill and North Shore Road, outside of the Brightside Apartments, and two bikes, the suspect bike and the victims who were on a motorbike, were engaged in an incident or altercation where the gunshots happened.

“We’re also aware that there was a motor car who had driven by immediately at the time that the two men on the suspect motorbike were leaving the parking lot, outside of Brightside Apartments heading west. That car is important to our inquiries and the persons who were inside of that vehicle and driving that vehicle could make contact with us.

“We’re also interested in speaking to a taxi driver who we believe transported the second injured male from Brightside to the hospital. If you can make contact with us….we’re very grateful for the assistance and will assist us in directing our lines of inquiry. Any information that you do have, we treat in the strictest of confidence and you can contact me, the senior investigating officer on 717-0864.
