Police have arrested the car driver involved in that early morning accident on the Causeway on Friday (December 6) on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

The two-vehicle collision with a truck sent early morning rush hour traffic into chaos and forced passengers bound for the airport to walk with their baggage to make their flights.

The female driver, who was travelling west, apparently collided with the truck travelling in the opposite direction.

A spokesman said: “The female driver was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst impaired.

“There were no injuries but both vehicles were damaged in the collision.

“Traffic was backed up in both directions until both vehicles were removed.”

Traffic was backed up for hours. Flight departures were also delayed as pilots were also stuck in traffic trying to get to the airport from Grotto Bay.
