A total of eight motorists were arrested for impaired driving this past weekend between Friday night (February 8th) until Sunday night (February 10th).
A police spokesman said: “Seven of the motorists were arrested at road sobriety checkpoints from Friday night until early Saturday morning and one motorist was arrested at a road sobriety checkpoint from Saturday night until early Sunday morning.
“The main objectives of the road sobriety checkpoints are to help make the roads safer and ultimately save lives.
“While there are no road sobriety checkpoints scheduled for this coming weekend, members of the public are urged not to drive or ride under the influence as police officers conducting their regular patrols will be on the lookout for any offences, including impaired driving.”
