A 25-year Warwick man remains in police custody today on suspicion of impaired driving, following that serious road traffic crash in Flatts on Monday night, that left six people injured.
Two female passengers, both 18, were admitted, one of them is listed as stable in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit. The other female passenger was admitted to a general ward.
Another 19-year-old male passenger was also admitted to a general ward. And two male passengers, aged 25 and 27, were treated and discharged.
The accident occurred around 10:20pm on Middle Road, near Whitney Institute in Smith’s, when the car apparently struck a wall and flipped.
The driver, a 25-year-old man believed to be from Warwick, was promptly arrested after receiving treatment.
The overturned car was extensively damaged, and a section of the roadside wall was knocked down. A light pole at the pedestrian crossing was also damaged.
Both traffic lanes were blocked for several hours as police processed the scene.
