The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) tonight confirmed the death of 30-year-old Rakai Augustus, who tragically lost his life in a single vehicle car crash just before midnight last night on York Street in St Georges.

While extending condolences to his family and friends, a police spokesman said: “Mr Augustus was seriously injured around 11:40pm Saturday, October 28th when the care he was traveling in struck a wal in the wellington Street, York Street St George’s area between Rose Hill and Fort George Hill.

“He was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance but sadly, later pronounced dead. 

“A 29-year-old woman said to be from Warwick and believed to have been driving the car involved in a westerly direction at the time was also hurt in the crash and transported to hospital via ambulance,” he said.

“The damaged car has been impounded and the 29-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of impaired driving pending further inquiries.”

Meanwhile, the investigation into this fatal accident continues and any witnesses who have not yet come forward are urged to contact the Roads Policing Unit on 247-1788.
