The Bermuda Police Service confirmed what was first reported by TNN that two officers have tested positive for COVID-19.

A police spokesman said one of the officers tested positive when he returned on a commercial airline flight, the other officer may have contracted it on the island.

“Both officers remain under mandatory quarantine and are also being closely monitored by the health authorities,” he added.

“Additional cleaning of facilities has taken place, with the assistance of a professional cleaning company.”

Contact tracing for both officers is now underway, including the officers who had been in contact with them and they have been tested.

They are now waiting for their results, which are expected within 24 hours.

“This should eliminate any further threat to the safety and wellbeing of staff and members of the public,” the spokesman said.

“However, out of an abundance caution, we will continue to closely monitor this situation and apprise the public as necessary, on any further developments.”
