Police tonight confirmed the sudden death of 68-year-old Kathleen Emam, “who was visiting Bermuda with her husband onboard the cruise ship Norwegian Escape after she fell from a jet ski as Aa passenger unresponsive in waters off Somerset.
Sadly, the tragic incident occurred shortly after 2pm on Thursday (August 22), while she was vacationing as a cruise ship passenger in Bermuda.
A police spokesman said: “Mrs. Emam, from New York, USA was initially said to be 62-years-old.
“Mrs Emam was on a Jet Ski operated by her 75-year-old husband, who is also from New York, when she fell off the back of the Jet Ski and became unresponsive during a tour in the waters off Daniel’s Head, Sandys Parish.
“Despite lifesaving efforts as she was transported by boat to Mangrove Bay public dock, which were then continued by Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service personnel at the dock and ambulance personnel as she was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, Mrs Emam was later pronounced dead,” he said.
“A Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to assist the deceased’s family at this difficult time.
“There do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances and a cause of death is being examined,” he added.
The spokesman also extended “sincere condolences to Mr Emam, their family and friends.
