Police tonight confirmed the sudden death of 68-year-old Kathleen Emam, “who was visiting Bermuda with her husband onboard the cruise ship Norwegian Escape after she fell from a jet ski as Aa passenger unresponsive in waters off Somerset.

Sadly, the tragic incident occurred shortly after 2pm on Thursday (August 22), while she was vacationing as a cruise ship passenger in Bermuda.

A police spokesman said: “Mrs. Emam, from New York, USA was initially said to be 62-years-old.

“Mrs Emam was on a Jet Ski operated by her 75-year-old husband, who is also from New York, when she fell off the back of the Jet Ski and became unresponsive during a tour in the waters off Daniel’s Head, Sandys Parish.

Despite lifesaving efforts as she was transported by boat to Mangrove Bay public dock, which were then continued by Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service personnel at the dock and ambulance personnel as she was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, Mrs Emam was later pronounced dead,” he said.

A Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to assist the deceased’s family at this difficult time.

“There do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances and a cause of death is being examined,” he added.

The spokesman also extended “sincere condolences to Mr Emam, their family and friends.
