The accident occurred around 2:45am, “while he was riding his private motorcycle”.

At last check the officer was listed in critical condition in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit.

Police Commissioner Stephen Corbishley said: “I was called to the hospital at 5:30am on Sunday and spent time with the Constable’s family and also visited the injured officer. I plan to visit again, after consulting with the family and based on their availability.

“In addition, a Family Liaison Officer has been assigned and the investigation continues to determine the full circumstances.

“However, indications are that no other vehicle or person was involved and at this stage, it appears to have been a tragic accident. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the Constable’s family at this difficult time and they have the full support of the BPS.”
