Police have confirmed the death of 72-year-old Robert Douglas, whose lifeless body was found on Elbow Beach in Paget on Tuesday by a member of the public shortly after 9:20am.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Antoine Daniels stated: “Although yet to be medically confirmed, from initial observations, it appears that this is the body of Mr Robert Douglas, who was last seen at his My Lord’s Bay, Hamilton Parish residence on the afternoon of Tuesday, March 24.

“When Mr Robert Douglas was reported missing, the BPS under the direction of the Vulnerable Persons Unit formulated extensive plans aimed at relocating Mr Douglas, by ensuring that the police response was focused, robust and coordinated.

“This included a combination of traditional and social media appeals for sightings, organised search groups, posting of flyers in key locations, use of drones, CCTV and close collaboration with family and other key stakeholders.
“Various departments within The Bermuda Police Service, including the Vulnerable Persons Unit, Roads Policing Unit, Police Support Unit and Gang Unit assisted by the Ex-Police Association, as well as Marine Unit and the Parishes Unit were involved in an
exhaustive search.
“The Royal Bermuda Regiment, the Bermuda Aerial Drone Flyers Association, and of course members of the public, carried out extensive searches of the Eastern, Central and western parishes and the BPS and other agencies were still engaged in this process.”
