The Bermuda Police Service has confirmed the death of 74-year-old American cruise ship visitor Dolores Burke.
Ms Burke, from Florida was snorkeling with a tour group near Hawkins Island around 11am on Thursday, June 28, when she got into difficulty.
A spokesman said: “Despite lifesaving efforts on the water as she was transported by police vessel to shore – which continued as she was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance – Ms. Burke was later pronounced dead.
“A Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to assist the deceased’s loved ones at this difficult time.
“There were no suspicious circumstances. However, an autopsy is anticipated,” he added.
He also extended sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased on behalf of the Bermuda Police Service.
