Following a trip overseas, a spokesman for the Bermuda Police Service (BPS) today confirmed that Stephen Corbishley, the Commissioner of Police has contracted COVID-19,

According to a BPS spokesman, the Commissioner tested positive after returning to Bermuda earlier this week.

This after a pre-travel test taken just before he came back to the island, which was clear.

As a result of the test result, the Commissioner will now have to be quarantined for the next two weeks.

The spokesman noted that Mr Corbishley observed isolation requirements after his return to the island as he awaited his test result and had no contact with police officers or the public.

“The Department of Health is aware and Commissioner Corbishley is in regular contact, electronically, with his management team,” he said.

“Mr Corbishley remains in good spirits and looks forward to returning to work.”

The spokesman added: “Following the COVID arrival test at LF Wade the Police Commissioner returned home into quarantined isolation to await his test result as per regulations and had no contact with members of the public as well as any member of the BPS.

“The positive COVID test was received by the Commissioner the next day contrary to the negative pre-travel test he received from overseas.
It was also noted that following a short period of overseas leave, the Commissioner of Police is isolated at home, in regular contact via electronic means with his management team, and is “in good spirits and looks forward to returning to work”.

“The Department of Health is aware and Commissioner Corbishley is in regular contact, electronically, with his management team.

“Mr. Corbishley remains in good spirits and looks forward to returning to work,” he added.
