Police and first responders were alerted to a car overboard in waters off Astwood Park/Cove around 10:22am this morning.
At this hour they are unable to ascertain whether or not anyone is in the overturned vehcile.
A police spokesman said: “Unfortunately the surf is too rough and the tide is very high making it too dangerous for the divers and at this point it is still unclear whether or not anyone is in the car.
“The area is still cordoned off and police are in the process of identifying the owner and or who was driving the vehicle.”
Efforts will be made to find out whether or not anyone is in the car when the rough weather conditions improve. Meanwhile, police will be stationed at the scene while efforts continue to track down the owner of the vehicle.
