The Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service Emergency (BFRS) Centre received a call reporting a brush fire around 8:20am this morning, in the marsh near Island Construction grounds in Devonshire.
According to BFRS Lieutenant Francis: “On arrival we found a large area of brush on fire and spreading due to heavy winds.
“We are currently fighting the fire and will provide updates.”
Police spokesman Dwayne Caines added: “We are asking for the public to please stay away from the area until the fire is fully under control.
“Residents in the area should close their windows and doors as there is heavy smoke and ash in the air.
“We will alert the public as to when the fire has been extinguished.”
