A 63-year-old rental livery cyclist lost his life following an accident in Devonshire on Monday, marking the seventh road traffic fatality on Bermuda’s roads this year.

The accident occurred around 5pm on South Road, near the junction with Brimstone Hill involving the rental cycle and a car.

A ten-year-old girl who was a pillion passenger on the cycle was also injured in the collision. At last check the young female visitor was receiving treatment for her injuries. A spokesman said “an update on her condition will be given in due course”.

While details are limited he said: “Initial information suggests that the male rental cycle rider sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital via ambulance for treatment.” He was later pronounced dead at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.
