An 18-year-old teenager flagged down by police for a routine traffic check, was arrested on Saturday when the officers recovered suspected drugs and a knife.
A spokesman said the officers signalled the motorcyclist to stop at the junction of Union Street and Parsons Road.
Police followed him when he ignored the order and rode dangerously before abandoning his bike near Bull’s Head Car Park, where he tried to escape the scene on fott.
While searching the teenager the officers found several small twists containing suspected cannabis and cannabis resin, a scale, a quantity of cash and a knife.
“A subsequent search of the man’s residence resulted in the recovery of a quantity of suspected controlled drugs, drug equipment and cash,“ the spokesman added:
“The suspect is expected to appear before the courts in due course.”
