A female driver who left the scene of an accident before police or paramedics arrived at the scene, was subsequently arrested at a nearby residence.

Police say the accident involved a white Jeep driving west and a motorcyclist just after 5.30pm yesterday, near the junction with Coney Island Road on North Shore Road in Hamilton Parish.

The Jeep reportedly veered into the path of a motorcycle travelling in the opposite direction, causing the female rider to be thrown from the vehicle.

She sustained a serious leg injury.

At last check, she was still receiving treatment at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

The female driver who left the scene of the accident was arrested on suspicion of driving while impaired and causing grievous bodily harm by dangerous driving.
