The Bermuda Police Service has confirmed the death of a 68-year-old American vacationer Edmund Prentis, who died following a road traffic accident on Thursday.

A spokesman said: “Mr Prentis, an American visitor said to be from Westhampton Beach, New York was seriously injured around 10am Thursday, May 11th when the rental cycle he was riding collided with a car being driven in the opposite direction on Middle Road in Warwick, near the junction with Burnt House Hill.

“Despite life-saving efforts at the scene by EMTs which continued during transport via ambulance, he was later pronounced dead at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

“A Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to assist the Prentis family at this difficult time.

“There were no injuries reported regarding the occupants of the car involved.”

Traffic was diverted away from the area for approximately three hours until the scene had been processed and the damaged vehicles removed.

The investigation continues regarding this year’s fourth road fatality and any witnesses who have yet to come forward are asked to contact the Roads Policing Unit on 247-1788.

The spokesman also extended sincere condolences to the victim’s family and friends.
