The Progressive Labour Party today announced Curtis Richardson as the PLP candidate for Paget East in the June 7 by-election.

Introduced by Acting Party Leader Walter Roban said: “Mr Richardson knows the issues that are near and dear to the people of Paget East, and is willing to roll up his sleeves and do whatever he can to ensure the concerns of the people are heard.”

He noted that the new candidate, “obtained the most ever votes for the PLP in Paget East, and narrowed the margin with the Opposition” in the last General Election.

Mr Roban added: “Mr Richardson knows the issues that are near and dear to the people of Paget East, and is willing to roll up his sleeves and do whatever he can to ensure the concerns of the people are heard.”

Constituency 22 had been represented since 1994 by Dr Grant Gibbons of the One Bermuda Alliance, who announced his resignation from politics on April 27 – 48 hours after Jeff Baron announced his resignation.

Speaking at a news conference today, Mr Richardson called on residents who failed to vote in the last General Election to go to the polls to “stand up and participate”.

He also said that he had been in touch with roughly 300 people who had not voted.

“Your vote matters, and I would like to connect with you,” said Mr Richardson.

“Ask yourself if the One Bermuda Alliance candidate deserves to inherit a seat or work hard for it.”
